We recently captured a project we did for a very special family earlier this year!

We got to come into their home, after they had designed and built it. We came in to bring life into these new spaces to gain that sense of home. We came in when there were just a few of the main pieces of furniture in many of the rooms. We worked with many existing bigger pieces (as furnishings your space doesn’t mean you have to get everything new), and brought in life and functionality to each room. We did this through drapery, area rugs, accent lighting, greenery, smaller decor, artwork, mirrors, functional seating and storage, etc.

Each space we work on, we figure out what furniture and decor we can repurpose or give new life and then work from there. This project was a prime example of that. Even though it didn’t feel like all of the existing pieces were working for the spaces at the start, by incorporating new layers, textures and colours, we were able to make each space feel cohesive and intentional.

Getting in and out the door can feel frantic at times (we’ve all been there!) and the entryway often becomes the dumping ground. Making an intentional “drop zone” area is so worthwhile!

A couple simple systems (think hooks for jackets & bags, a bowl or basket for keys & odds and ends) can help keep all the essentials organized, and can make the space look beautiful!

Function and style continue to be the deadliest of duos 🙌🏽

The memories that are flooded through each and every photo . There is so much that I would give just to have one more of my dads heartfelt hugs.

It’s on a day like today that you continue to wrestle with this dichotomy we face in life, where joy and sorrow are at a crossroads. The past while I have been feeling the deep sorrow and longing to be able to just chat with my dad again. To learn from his wisdom. To have him check up on me. To simply get to enjoy the beauty my son is bringing to this world.

With that, I also am filled to the brim with gratitude for all he gave me as his daughter. The love that never ceased. The lessons that were taught with grace. The belly laughs around the dinner table (I can still hear it so clearly). The fact that he would show up…any time any where (that was a promise that he kept from my early years of hating sleepovers). He was the one cheering you on from near and afar.

I can never look upon the loss of dad with pure sadness, as that wouldn’t allow me to see how much I was so privileged to have in as a dad like him.

And the dichotomy continues…it truly is the biggest joy of mine, watching Brods become a dad to our son. You live life with such a childlike joy and curiosity that I can already tell you are passing onto Myles. Thank you for living out the depth of love through the highs and lows of parenthood.

And to the rest of the dads here at Abide…we are beyond grateful for you, your love, and your support.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. To the ones who play a father figure role. My heart is with everyone celebrating fathers, like me, that are no longer with us. We are so thankful for all of the father figures in on our lives that have helped shape and form us ❤️
